Born in Porto Alegre on February
3, 1964, daughter of a Brazilian mother with Central American
diplomat, a native of Costa Rica, family descendants of
black Jamaicans, who inherited the surname Leveridge,
Grace Patterson has been working very early with art making
use of graphite, pastel and acrylic for his portraits
and his paintings. In the picture, which is dedicated
since 1988, the artist starts painting his canvases with
african theme in 1997 when she held her first solo exhibition,
titled Black Beauty, making use of pastel on cardboard
and oil on canvas. Since 2005, invests in joining the
technical possibilities of the application of acrylic
furnishings and fabrics.
In 2006, DA COR held the exhibition space Augusto Meyer,
at Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana. In 2007, the exhibition
DA TERRA at Vinícolas do Brasil and SAWABONA in
the space Mário Quintana, at the Trensurb. At this
stage experienced, with beautiful results, the use of
other materials of nature, such as sisal, coffee, clay
and straw. In the same year, attended the tribute to 70
years of Moacyr Scliar, at Garagem de Arte. In 2009, Grace
returns to the theme in the exhibition ethnic DA LUZ in
Lobby Shopping Bourbon Country, Porto Alegre / RS, completing
the trilogy DA COR [2006], DA TERRA [2007].
Self-taught, came to attend the Agricultural
Engineering between 1987 and 1990, at the Federal University
of Pelotas. Her artistic training began at the National
School of Design in Porto Alegre (1983-1985) and was completed
in courses with names such as Virginia posted Quites,
with whom she studied acrylic paint at Atelier Livre da
Prefeitura de Porto Alegre, Enio Lippmann (oil painting),
in Art Museum of the RS (MARGS); Renata Rubin (surface
design), Mello da Costa (live model), in Pelotas, and
Uruguayan Berné (artistic design and pastel).
She has participated in group
shows in Porto Alegre and the cities of Santa Cruz (RS),
and Jaguarão, Pelotas (RS). Between 1992 and 1993,
toured America, performing individual in Panama, Viña
del Mar (Chile), Quito (Ecuador) and San Jose (Costa Rica).
In 1997, she made her first solo exhibition in Porto Alegre,
entitled "Black Beauty", which ran through the
spaces of SOGIPA, Legislative Assembly of the RS and Câmara
Municipal de Porto Alegre. In 1999 she directed the exhibition
"Citizens for Peace" at Bourbon Ipiranga Shopping
traveling soon after, places like Câmara Municipal
de Porto Alegre, among others. In 2004, won the Creativity
in the I Outdoor Art Afro RS, at Memorial do Rio Grande
do Sul
